Mary Vlamis • Secretary-General
Mary is a senior at the University of Connecticut in the Honors Program pursuing a double major in political science and economics. This is her fourth and final year working on the staff of UCMUN. After being Director-General last year and director of WFP the year prior, Mary is incredibly honored to be serving as Secretary-General for UCMUN XXI. As Secretary-General, Mary aspires to foster an environment of respect, cooperation, and intellectual curiosity, leading to a conference full of fruitful debate. Outside of Model UN, Mary is very active in undergraduate research. She is a recipient of a UConn SHARE Grant for her research assistantship on an economic development project focusing on discrimination in the Peruvian job market. This past spring, Mary presented research at the MidWest Political Science Association’s annual conference in Chicago, where she participated on a panel discussion on judicial politics. Mary also served as a legislative intern to Speaker Aresimowicz during the Connecticut General Assembly’s last session. In her limited free time, Mary enjoys laughing to Netflix comedy specials, painting, or spending quality time with loved ones. Mary is eager to see the staff’s hard work come to life with this year’s UCMUN conference and is patiently waiting for the weekend filled with conversations on stimulating issues and unique solutions. Chloe Gannon • Director-General
Clotilde, although her friends call her Chloe, is a senior at UConn. She is a political science major with a minor in global studies. Last semester she committed to UConn’s Master of Public Administration fast-track program. After college, she dreams of serving in the Peace Corps. Upon her return, she hopes to work with nonprofit organizations. Last year, Chloe was fortunate enough to study abroad. She went to Florence, Italy and had the time of her life. She highly recommends the experience and loves to travel. Her hobbies include reading, listening to music, cooking, and watching movies. Chloe participated in UCMUN XVIII as an assistant director for UNICEF. The following year, she served as the director of UNICEF. Last year she served as the director of UNHRC. Chloe is incredibly honored to be serving as director-general this year and hopes to make UCMUN XXI the best conference yet. Angela is a junior on a pre-pharmacy track with a minor in molecular and cell biology. UCMUN XXI is her third conference and this is her first time as Conference Director, after serving as Topic Specialist and Assistant Director for WHO in prior years. In addition to UCMUN, she is part of the Student Health & Wellness student support staff, a member of the Student Health Outreach Team, and a soup enthusiast. Angela is also learning to sew and propagate succulents. Angela is looking forward to the conference and will be doing her best to make it a great experience for everyone! Director of Education
Monica is a senior majoring in physiology and neurobiology with a minor in molecular and cell biology. She is pursuing a career in neuroscience. This is her second year as Director of Education, and she was previously a topic specialist for UNEP and UNICEF. Monica is also an active member in UConn's ASHA for Education, PAPCA, and Red Cross Club. In her spare time Monica likes to play tennis, drink tea, and listen to music by Kanye West. When she's not at school, you can find her working in the pharmacy or hospital. She is extremely excited to meet all of you and to make this conference the best one yet. Chief of Staff
Zewen is a senior in majoring in molecular and cell biology. He has participated in UCMUN since his sophomore year in high school and hopes to continue that passion throughout the rest of his undergraduate years. When not taking Ls in class, Zewen likes to write poetry and enjoys long walks around the pond behind UConn. He also volunteers at elementary schools in his free time. Gino De Angelis
Director of Administration
Gino is a senior journalism and political science double major. This is his third UCMUN conference, having served as the topic specialist for CTC last year and the administrative assistant director for WFP in 2017. Outside of UCMUN, Gino is a member of UCTV’s entertainment department and wrote for The Daily Campus when he was a student at UConn’s Avery Point campus. He likes to spend his free time reading, watching Netflix, and hanging out with his friends. In the future, he hopes to become a political reporter. Director of Security
Arjun Ahuja is a junior pursuing a double major in political science and philosophy with a hope to attend law school upon graduating. An avid Model UN participant, Arjun has been an active member since his junior year of high school, where he learned the importance of diplomacy and the art of public speaking. He also participates in UConn’s Travel Model UN team in which they travel the country competing on the college circuit. As Director of Security, he hopes to bring an atmosphere of safety and calm to allow delegates to do what they do best, solve the problems of our time. When not participating in various Model UN activities, Arjun enjoys hanging out with his fraternity brothers at Phi Gamma Delta, better known as FIJI, playing basketball, and pretending he knows how to play the guitar. Director of Media & Press Corps
Gabriella is a senior double majoring in journalism and communication. This is her fourth year in UCMUN, having previously served as topic specialist for UNESCO and UNHCR and as an assistant director for UNEP. Outside of UCMUN, Gabriella is the News Editor of The Daily Campus, where she also serves as a copy editor and layout designer; a TME Mentor for prospective journalism majors; and the secretary of Disney at UConn. In her free time, Gabby can be found listening to Broadway music, wandering around New York City, or obsessively watching How I Met Your Mother and Last Week Tonight. Maura is a junior currently majoring in philosophy. This is her third year on the staff of UCMUN and seventh year participating in Model UN. Along with UCMUN, Maura additionally is a competitive delegate on UConn’s Travel Model UN team as well as a member of the National High School Model UN staff. Outside of the Model UN realm, she is the Chapter President for her sorority Alpha Chi Omega. In her free time, Maura enjoys running, spending time with friends, and binge watching TV shows. Community Outreach Coordinator
Walter is a senior double majoring in political science and philosophy. This is his fourth year participating in UCMUN. For the past two years, Walter has served as the director of the International Law Commission and the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Although he did not participate in Model UN as a high schooler, Walter is very passionate about UCMUN due to his interest in politics and international relations. While at school, he works in the UConn Office of Community Outreach as a driver and is the Communications Director for UConnPIRG. When not at UConn, Walter skis in the winter, sails during the summer, and works on political campaigns. You can find him in Boston taking in a game at Fenway Park or at home in upstate New York. Walter encourages delegates to participate in spirited debate and insightful thoughts on the pressing issues in today’s heated international climate. Assistant Director General
Brendan is a junior at UConn working towards a dual degree in political science and psychology (B.A.) and a separate degree in philosophy. Last year he served as the Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee and has also spent four years participating in Model UN on his high school’s team. Besides participating in UCMUN, he loves to interview people for Humans of UConn and enjoys spending his spring break with HASB, an alternative UConn spring break group, working alongside Habitat for Humanity.
